Why I hate historians of philosophy

Looking around in the aforementioned library, I ran across a really brutal review of a book on Anselm. To illustrate just how egregious were the author's failures as a historian, the reviewer brought out this damning indictment: "She does not know the critical edition of Peter Damian's De divina omnipotentia."

Oh nooo! She doesn't know the critical edition of Damian's letter on divine omnipotence! How can this fraud hold her head up in respectable company?

But wait. You know who else didn't know the critical edition of Damian's letter?

Anselm.

He probably didn't know Damian's letter at all.

Historians of philosophy can be such snots.
